How it’s calculated
Power is energy per unit time; the SI unit is the watt (1 W = 1 J/s). Values are converted through watts.
Example: a 100 hp engine is 100 × 745.69987 = 74.57 kW, or about 101.39 PS.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert hp to kW?
Multiply mechanical horsepower by 0.7457. For example, 200 hp ≈ 149.1 kW. For metric horsepower (PS), multiply by 0.7355.
How many BTU/h is 1 kW?
About 3,412.14 BTU/h, since 1 BTU/h is about 0.29307 W.
What is a ton of air conditioning?
A ton of refrigeration is 12,000 BTU/h (about 3.517 kW), roughly the cooling rate of melting one short ton of ice per day.
