Privacy Policy
Last updated 2026-10-08
This policy explains what information SortedSums (the “Site”) handles. In short: we have no accounts, no sign-up forms and no analytics, and the numbers you type into a calculator never leave your browser.
Calculations stay on your device
Every calculation runs in your browser with JavaScript. The values you type are not sent to us or to anyone else. When you change an input, the page address updates to include your inputs (for example?length=20&width=12) so that you can bookmark or share the result. That address stays in your browser unless you copy or share it, and anyone you share a link with can see the values in it. If you open a shared link, its values are shown to you but are not saved as your own rates.
Saved preferences (local storage)
The Site uses your browser’s local storage, not cookies, for two conveniences. Nothing in local storage is sent to our servers.
- Currency: the currency you pick in the header (key
pref:currency). - Your rates: prices, labor rates and tax or markup percentages that you type into fields marked “Your rate is remembered on this device” (keys beginning
rate:), so the next estimate starts from your numbers.
To remove them, press Reset on a calculator (clears that calculator’s saved rates) or clear this site’s data in your browser settings. Private or incognito windows discard them when closed.
Hosting logs
Like any website, our hosting provider automatically receives standard technical data when your browser requests a page (IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time) in order to deliver the Site and protect it from abuse. We do not use these logs to identify or profile visitors.
Links to other sites
Calculator pages cite their sources with links to third-party websites such as government agencies and open textbooks. Those sites have their own privacy policies; we do not control them.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads, which keeps the calculators free. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visitingGoogle Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies by visitingaboutads.info. Learnhow Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent through a Google-certified consent management platform before personalized ads or cookies are used. You can change your choice at any time via the “Privacy and cookie settings” link shown on the page.
Apart from Google’s advertising code, the Site uses no analytics or tracking scripts. The local storage described above is unrelated to advertising.
Feedback you send
If you email us a report or suggestion, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to look into and reply to your message, and we don’t add you to any list. GitHub issues are public and handled by GitHub under its own privacy statement.
Children
The site is a general-audience tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Because we do not collect personal data from calculations, there is usually nothing for us to access or delete: preferences in local storage are under your control and can be cleared at any time. For any privacy request (including GDPR, UK GDPR and CCPA requests), contact us at the address below.
