How it’s calculated
Pressure is force per area; the SI unit is the pascal (1 Pa = 1 N/m²). All values are converted through pascals.
Example: a 32 psi tire is 32 × 6,894.757 = 220,632 Pa = 2.206 bar (220.6 kPa).
Tire and gauge readings are relative to the surrounding air (gauge pressure). Converting units does not turn gauge pressure into absolute pressure.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert psi to bar?
Multiply psi by 0.0689476 (or divide by about 14.5038). For example, 35 psi ≈ 2.41 bar.
How many psi is 1 atmosphere?
About 14.696 psi. One standard atmosphere is exactly 101,325 Pa.
Are mmHg and torr the same?
Practically yes. 1 Torr is exactly 1/760 atm (≈133.3224 Pa) and the conventional mmHg is ≈133.3224 Pa; they differ by less than one part in a million.
