How it’s calculated
The second is the SI base unit of time. Larger units are fixed multiples of it; the year has no single exact length, so this converter uses the Julian year of 365.25 days used in astronomy.
Example: 36 h × 60 = 2,160 min, or 36 ÷ 24 = 1.5 days (1 d 12 h).
Frequently asked questions
How many seconds are in a year?
31,536,000 in a 365-day year, 31,622,400 in a leap year, and 31,557,600 in the 365.25-day Julian year used here.
How do I convert decimal hours to hours and minutes?
Multiply the decimal part by 60. 7.75 h = 7 h + 0.75 × 60 min = 7 h 45 min. The breakdown line does this for you.
Why are months not included?
Months vary from 28 to 31 days, so there is no exact conversion. An average month is 30.44 days (365.25 ÷ 12).
