How it’s calculated
The tip is a percentage of the bill; add it to get the total and divide by the number of people.
Example: an $84 bill with an 18% tip: tip = 84 × 0.18 = $15.12, total = $99.12, and split four ways each person pays $24.78.
Per-person amounts are not rounded, so totals may differ from what you pay by a cent.
